Downtown, Penn Quarter, Foggy Bottom & federal ZIPs · Sheet 2
Downtown is mostly offices, hotels and condo buildings around Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Penn Quarter, Chinatown and Franklin Square. Office suites sit inside managed buildings where the landlord controls the lobby, stairwells and core doors. Your suite door, interior offices, file cabinets and storage rooms are usually your responsibility, and that is where most of our downtown work happens.
Logan Circle and the blocks of 20005 north of K Street add rowhouses and condo buildings to the office mix. Foggy Bottom and the West End, in 20037, combine George Washington University, the Watergate, apartment buildings and older rowhouses on narrow streets. University buildings are handled by the university.
Many ZIP codes in the District belong to a single federal agency, a large building or a P.O. box range rather than a neighbourhood. Federal buildings have their own security, locksmiths and access control, and outside locksmiths are not admitted without the agency's request. If you work in one, contact the building's facilities or security office. For a P.O. box, the post office handles the lock.
Car lockouts are common downtown, where garages and metered street parking fill quickly. If the car is in a garage, tell the dispatcher the garage name and level; garage staff sometimes need to let the technician in.
Restaurants, theaters and shops around Penn Quarter and Chinatown tend to have several layers of doors: a public front, a service entrance off the alley, offices, liquor storage and a cash room. Each layer needs its own level of key control, and a master key system is usually the right fit. When a manager leaves, only the doors that manager could open need attention.
